A short game hides anywhere in a cat-and-mouse experience by Courtney Calle.

Back in 2019, this is one of my first videos that I played some of the short RPG Maker games including Hide, Hart; And yes, it was made by former both American Idol contestant and video game developer Courtney Calle, who also developed her very first, prototypical game Bubble published in RPG Maker Web, same as the second game did (Unfortunately, her last game was The Errands, released in itch.io on 2021; after The One Left Waiting‘s development possibly left for dead).

A story about a second-year college student named Kate Hart, who stayed in a girl’s dorm with her roommate Anne. They heard an announcement that the serial killer is on loose after these two college girls were murdered in cold blood, so she warned Kate to always lock inside in secure from the killer, but not for long. The following day, the serial killer arrives. Kate decides to hide somewhere in a room and escape from the serial killer. It takes 10-15 minutes of each single ending, which takes four endings in an hour to finished. I decide the “vent and note” ending, the only true ending where Kate ended up entering a vent without notice the killer, which goes to the other room; Kate felt relieved that finally found in a room, but she saw a desktop with a video recorded one of the girls left. After watching the video, two of them was the serial killer and his girlfriend Mindy ended up in argument, the latter out of curiosity and breaks up with him, which he ended up killing her mercifully, but it was caught by Mindy’s roommate, who was also ended up murdered off-screen. In shock, serial killer’s true identity was Jacob Miller. Kate felt more distressed and sadder at the same time over the video but decided her fate to make a conversation with Jacob by giving a note from Mindy as an apology and love letter. Jacob thought Mindy hated him once, but he always knew that he deeply loved her as a “friend”. The cops arrived and Jacob decided his ultimate fate by ended up killed peacefully by the cops. Kate ended up in a hospital after her injured ankle while sprinting; Kate tells the truth about her past to Anne, once she was a high school outcast who was bullied by the other girls for years. But for Anne, she was terrified over Kate’s bullying and extortion, in which it never happened again, but she always believed Kate as a true friendship in good terms for two months. Always said, “you are no longer to hide, Hart”.

After finished the game, I praised the originality and story, but it felt short enough to play, alongside the ending which choose you think. It’s a niche but little bit of horror experience; in fact, it’s just a heart-pounding psychological thriller short game with cat-and-mouse experience and choice-driven narrative that what you choose carefully or ran away from the killer; otherwise, you might ended up getting killed.

RATING: ★★★★☆
